HOW TO PREPARE AND REGISTER FOR THE SAT
The College Board schedules SAT exams on several Saturdays throughout the year. You can register for the SAT through the College Board website. Registering for the SAT costs $60. If you register late, there is an extra fee of $30. Changing your testing center or canceling your registration will incur an additional fee of $25. If you cancel your registration after the cancellation deadline, you will be charged an additional $35. The deadline for registering for the SAT is approximately one month prior to the test date.
SAT preparation can be costly, with group tutoring programs reaching $1,200 or more and individual tutors charging hefty hourly rates. However, it doesn’t have to be expensive. The College Board provides free SAT prep through Khan Academy, and numerous free resources are available online. With dedication and effort, any student can significantly improve their SAT scores.
WHEN ARE SAT SCORES RELEASED?
SAT scores are usually released about two weeks after the test date, often 13 days post-exam. You can view your scores online, which includes individual section scores and your composite score.
For those who choose to have College Board send scores directly to colleges (you get four free score reports with your SAT registration), colleges will receive them about ten days after you do - approximately 23 days after the test date. Additional score reports ordered later take about one to two weeks to process. However, college admissions offices have their own schedules, so your scores might take longer to appear in your application.
Note that for summer test dates, score release can take up to five weeks. Be cautious of websites claiming to offer early access to your SAT scores; College Board used to provide early scores for a fee but no longer offers this service.
SAT TEST CALENDAR FOR SCORE RELEASE DATES:
The simplest way to access your SAT scores is by logging into your College Board account. Scores typically appear at 5 a.m. on the release date, but if they’re not there right away, don’t panic—check again later in the day.
